Eighty years ago today, on May 26, 1940, King George VI called the country to a National Day of Prayer. In northern France, Operation Dynamo got under way – the evacuation of over 300,000 Allied troops from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk. It became known as The Miracle of Dunkirk.
